Life isn't just Grammy nominations and no. 1 singles for Bruno Mars. Mars faced a Las Vegas Justice Court today to begin the steps in the 25-year-old's plea deal for his September 2010 arrest.
Last week, the Vegas District Attorney's office agreed to honor a "deferred adjudication," or plea deal that would take the incident -- security nabbed Mars inside a Hard Rock Hotel & Casino bathroom with 2.6 grams of cocaine -- off his record. Mars in turn would have to stay out of trouble for 12 months, perform 200 hours of community service and pay a $2000 fine. The 'Just the Way You Are' crooner's attorney also added that Mars would seek substance abuse counseling.
Mars, real name Peter Hernandez, waived a preliminary hearing for one felony count of drug possession today, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "We are extremely pleased that the charge against Bruno is going to be dismissed," Mars' lawyer said after the hearing. His next trial date is set for Feb. 14, a day after the singer is set to appear at the Grammys.
Mars is up for a seven Grammys for his debut 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans' at next week's ceremony in Los Angeles. His second single from the album 'Grenade' currently sits an no. 1 on the singles chart.
